Magic Rainbow made me do this

Belated #30DaySongChallenge Sugarland w/ Little Big Town, Like a Prayer, by Madonna

Well, I forgot to post Day 30 for my very own song challenge.  I must admit, I was sort of struggling with what to put for that final slot.  Another DC song?  One of my many favorite Indigo Girls covers?  So difficult.  Then, tonight, I went to see Sugarland play, and they did this cover, with Little Big Town.  Just great.

#30DaySongChallenge3 Day 29: Mary Chapin Carpenter, Passionate Kisses, by Lucinda Williams

Another song that seems so connected to the cover artist that it can be hard to recall that, yes, she did not originate it.

#30DaySongChallenge Day 28: The Decemberists, Cuyahoga, by REM

In honor of my most recent concert experience.

#30DaySongChallenge3 Day 27: Kelly Hogan, Accentuate the Positive

WARNING: the pictures in the video are overtly political. But the song is awesome. And I couldn’t find another source on the internets.  And my previous attempt to make a video for one of these 30 Day Song Challenge ventures kind of made me want to fling my computer.  If you don’t want the politics, but do want the awesome song, press play, and then flip to another tab.  It’s Kelly Hogan, y’all!  Gotta spread the awesome!

#30DaySongChallenge3 Day 26, Shawn Colvin, You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go

Third Bob Dylan song that I’ve posted.  Anyone else get a sense that I like Bob Dylan songs…. when they’re sung by someone else?  Er, yeah.

#30DaySongChallenge3 Day 25: White Stripes, One More Cup of Coffee

Hell to the yeah.

#30DaySongChallenge3 Day 24: Eva Cassidy, Fields of Gold, by Sting

This is another song that deserves to be in the debate for “best cover ever.”  I always loved the original, by Sting, by the pacing and tone of the cover really fit the lyrics and feel of the underlying song.  So much so that Sting did a pretty similar sounding take during his “lute phase.”

#30DaySongChallenge Day 23, Cake, Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love to Town, by Kenny Rogers.

I was, of course, tempted to use Mahna Mahna instead.  But this one is a really good cover, so….

#30DaySongChallenge3 Day 22: Social Network soundtrack, In the Hall of the Mountain King

Does this count as a cover? One of the pluses of having decreed the lack of rules is that I get to define “cover” to include this modern version of a classical song.  Go, me and my lack of rules.

#30DaySongChallenge3 Day 21: Patricia Barber, You Don’t Know Me, by Ray Charles

I love Patricia Barber’s voice, her piano-work, all that good stuff.  Also, her sense of humor, which is why I was thinking of highlighting either her version of Call Me or of Light My Fire.  But this is one of my favorite songs ever, and I love her version.
